Class
Details
At the beginning
of the day instructors will assess your paddling development
to determine strengths and needs. The rest of the
day is spent reviewing what you know and practicing
new strokes. In addition to practicing paddle float
and “T” recoveries, you will learn new
recovery techniques such as the sling, cowboy, Eskimo,
the scoop, hand of God, and the basics of rolling.
After reviewing braces instructors will teach you
new strokes such as the “Queen Anne Salute”,
the running low brace, and extended braces. Complete
this class and you are on your way to becoming an
advanced paddler.
Rescues
:
Paddle Float:
The paddle float rescue is explained and demonstrated
on shore and then practiced in waist deep water in
pairs. Clients will perform the rescue at least twice
from each side of the boat, once they’ve gained
the necessary skills in shallow water, we progress
to deep water drills and implement a 10 minute time
limit per rescue.
“T” Rescue
The "T" rescue is also explained and demonstrated
in waist deep water using the B.C.U style since we
feel it works in more situations than the more commonly
taught A.C.A version. Again this rescue is performed
in the safe controllable shallow water environment
until the necessary skills are gained. We then head
for deep water to master this rescue.
Cowboy, Scramble or Rodeo Rescue
Cowboy rescues are a more advanced style, so they
are generally demonstrated and practiced in deep water
once the class has mastered the Paddle Float and the
“T” rescue. The class will perform this
very quick rescue with a bailing component. Besides
being quick, this rescue does not need any other gear
i.e. paddle floats, slings or pumps. Once mastered
this rescue is very efficient and fast.
