Once you have
developed a strong set of braces and rescues you can
put those skills to the test in open water. PRO clinics
take you to Chimney Rock, under the Golden Gate Bridge
and Tomales Point. You will surf, read tides and currents,
explore rock gardens and practice navigation. Learn
everything you need to become a competent independent
kayaker. It’s an amazing ride!
Mouth of Drakes
Following a surf launch at Drakes Beach
we paddle east to the mouth of Drakes Estero. Here
you will practice your surf skills and braces with
a challenging full day in the surf. Be prepared to
get very wet and have a great time.
Chimney Rock
After launching at Drakes Beach, we will follow the
shoreline of Drakes Bay to Chimney Rock, doing some
surfing along the way. Around noon we will stop for
lunch at Chimney Rock. If conditions permit we can
spice up the day with a bit of rock gardening under
the impressive cliffs of the Point Reyes Peninsula.
Tomales Point
This clinic launches from Nick’s Cove heading
northwest to the mouth of Tomales Bay. At the mouth
you will put your bracing and surf skills to the test
and enjoy incredible views of the Pacific Ocean and
Bodega Bay. If the conditions are favorable we can
get in some rock gardening at Tomales Point, the northern
most point of the peninsula.
Tides & Currents
Spend the day in the challenging waters of San Francisco
Bay. Learn about tides and currents and build your
skills in the waters of the “Gate”. This
class meets at Horseshoe Cove under the north tower
of the Golden Gate Bridge. Learn tides and currents
as you put your skills to the test paddling out the
Golden Gate!
Roll Clinic
Rolling, formerly known
as the Eskimo Roll, is the quickest recovery for the
un-planned capsize. There are many styles of rolls
and our job is to help you develop what comes naturally.
Ultimately, it is best to have many types of rolls
in your “tricks” bag and learning the
roll gives the confidence needed to paddle in a wide
range of conditions. Call
for more information.
Private Instruction
There are no prerequisites for private instruction,
just a desire to learn and a willingness to get wet.
Beginning paddlers to open water pros can benefit
from the one on one attention given in these classes.
