Kayaking Clothing Recomendations
Due
to the wonderful whims of Mother Nature, you need to
come prepared for variable weather conditions. Wear
clothing that accurately reflects your personal degree
of sensitivity to heat and cold.
You
will need to layer your clothing to include a warmth
layer that will keep you warm even when wet. Avoid cotton
such as sweat shirts, sweat pants and blue jeans. Once
cotton gets wet it drys very slowly and can leave you
cold and damp.
Warmth Layer
o
A
fleece or synthetic shirt, vest or jacket functions
best as a warmth layer. Fleece and synthetics wick the
moisture away from your body and keeps you warm even
when wet. Wool also works as a warmth layer.
Pants
o
Wear
quick-dry, nylon, polypro or rain pants or shorts depending
on the weather conditions. It can be cool in the
morning and evenings and warm during the day, so layering
your clothing prepares you for changing temperatures.
Wind-break
Layer
o
Bring a windbreaker or rain jacket. This layer is important
and should not be overlooked. If you are damp from paddling
even a slight breeze can chill you. This light weight
jacket will help to keep you snug and dry.
Foot
Wear
o
Your
lower legs and feet will get wet stepping in and out
of the kayak, so wear old tennis shoes, wetsuit booties,
rubber/teva type sandals or rubber boots.
o
Fleece and wool socks are recommended for colder weather.
Hats
and Gloves
o
Fleece or wool caps or poly rain hats for cool weather.
Always bring a sun hat.
