Nicaragua Kayak Excursion
Pacific Coast
Sample Itinerary - 8 Days
Day 1: Arrive in Managua. Meet your fellow travelers and PRO guides. Travel to Leon for dinner and a night in the city. Roam the avenues to Parque Central or head back to your hotel and enjoy the peace of night in your new home.
Day 2: Travel to the Estero Padre Ramos Nature Reserve. Pack your kayaks and enjoy our first paddle together through this protected mangrove estuary. We will arrive at our campsite on our own secluded beach, just in time for dinner and a sunset before we drift to sleep and dream sweetly under the stars.
Days 3-4: Kayak. Hike. Swim. Rest. Practice new strokes and skills. Explore. Read. Play games. Paddle with your guides and companions, the fish, birds, crabs, caimans, and sea turtles that call this mangrove estuary home.
Each day, you will enjoy delicious meals of fresh and local foods, prepared by our very own cook. Each evening, we will slumber well, lulled to sleep by the lapping waters of the estuary or the crashing waves of the Pacific. By now you are well on your way to vacation, losing track of time and space.
Day 5: Explore the Padre Ramos Estuary in the morning, before we return to our launch site by midday. Catch one more fresh fish lunch on the beach, and wander the streets of “downtown” Padre Ramos to learn more about this quiet fishing community.
In the afternoon, we will return to the colors and energy of Leon. Savor a hearty dinner and enjoy a live music performance by the local singers and musicians in this passionate and creative city.
Day 6: Enjoy the morning in Leon...the sights and scents of open-air markets, the grandeur of churches, and the energy of the people. Throughout the day, we will learn more about the history and culture of Nicaragua from the sights, sounds, and smells around us. In the afternoon, we will venture off to our next destination - the volcanic, mountain regions of the highlands in the Tisey-Estanzuela Nature Reserve.
Day 7: Travel amongst organic farms, pine forests, bromeliads, orchids, shade-grown coffee plantations and small mountain towns in the rugged Nueva Segovias. Your tastebuds will be delighted with the tastes of local cheeses, meats, veggies, honey, and of course, coffee, during our jaunts to visit local artists and explore protected nature reserves. Spend the night in your very own private cabin in the silence and tranquility of the fresh mountain air.
Day 8: Travel from Leon to Managua, a well-rested, rejuvenated, and more enlightened individual.
