In
the bright California sunshine, surrounded by soft
sand beaches and sweeping shoreline vistas, it is
easy to overlook the small but the astounding world
inside a tide pool. If you walk along the waters edge,
where mud and rock meet the salty sea, there are thrilling
sights colors, textures, plants, and animals that
have adapted to survive in this raucous, dynamic environment.
Ochre sea stars, aggregated anemones, gooseneck barnacles,
and periwinkle snails are just a few of the amazing
creatures that inhabit this ever-changing inter-tidal
zone. We will explore the incredible adaptations and
animal behaviors that allow tidal creatures to thrive
amidst the strong forces created where the sea meets
the land. We will peek into a world where species
have remained unchanged for millions of years and
discover a place full of stories of survival, partnership,
war, food, and family. In this small pool of water
we can begin to see the unity and connection between
all living things on our planet.
With the cool ocean breeze in our hair and the warm
sun on our faces, we will wander the beach in search
of extraordinary creatures and enjoy a delicious snack
while watching the ocean play against the shore.
Join us and find out what treasures lie beneath the
